What Happened to You During the Pandemic?

Updated: Aug 13

There’s a lot of discussion of before the pandemic and after the pandemic, but we’re missing an important part of the conversation: What happened during the pandemic? And in particular:

What happened to you during the pandemic?

“We’re not a society that’s programmed for reflection,” social worker Laura Wallace told The Washington Post. “It’s as if we’re always looking forward or we’re always staying so busy…. It’s always a forward motion.”

Yet, if we keep rushing forward without reflecting on where we’ve been, what we’ve learned, and what we went through, we miss out on some important discoveries that were made during the pandemic.

For some of us, these discoveries came through enormous pain and loss. Many people entered the pandemic alone after suffering a major sudden loss. Others found themselves shocked—and confused—about all the rapid changes as they occurred.

Since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, each person has encountered—a lot.

What happened to you during the pandemic?

Let’s start sharing our stories with each other.

Let’s start listening as well.
